The Sumatra surf region

The highest concentration of world-class waves on the planet

Facing the open Indian Ocean, Sumatra receives uninterrupted southern hemisphere swells generated by the Roaring Forties and Furious Fifties, travelling thousands of miles and arriving at these reefs as clean, long-period groundswells.

Two fully equipped vessels

Built for the Indian Ocean

Your experienced local crew and a kitchen that keeps you fuelled for every session. From the moment you step aboard, everything is taken care of, so all you need to think about is which wave to surf next.

I have surfed Indonesia, Portugal, Australia, Morocco, the Maldives and Hawaii, and this is still the trip I talk about most. Gonçalo has a level of local knowledge that no guidebook or travel agent can replicate.

I had three dream trips with Gonçalo. He has an enormous knowledge of Sumatra's islands. On one of those trips he took us to a secret spot for the biggest days of the swell, where I surfed the best waves of my life. A dream came true. Do not miss a trip with Gonçalo.

We came as a family, kids included, and Gonçalo made it work for everyone. The little ones had calm, beautiful water to explore while the adults got to surf waves we will never forget. The crew were warm, patient and genuinely wonderful with the children.

Before you book

The questions everyone asks first

What is the best season?

April to October is prime season. March and November can also offer good surf with fewer crowds.

Is my level good enough?

If you can catch waves independently, you are ready. There are waves for all levels from intermediate to advanced, averaging 3 to 6 feet. Absolute beginners are not recommended.

Who decides where we surf?

Guests decide, based on the surf guide's recommendations on swell, wind and tides. We move with real-time conditions rather than a fixed itinerary.

What is included?

Transfers, all meals and non-alcoholic drinks, 30 beers per guest, surf guide, equipment onboard, and taxes except the Mentawai surfing tax. Flights, insurance, hotels, the photography package and tips are not included.
